Asset Codes

Asset codes explained and used in Click Maint.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

An asset code is a unique number assigned to an asset for easy tracking, management, and identification purposes. Admins must enable asset codes for the Assets module to make the codes visible or required data. Users can then add the codes, edit them, and use the codes to run reports. Before we explain how to add or edit your asset codes to the program, learn what makes a good asset code.

Suggested Asset Codes Naming Guide

Using a consistent asset naming convention, such as an asset code helps streamline maintenance management by:

  • Speeding up onboarding: New team members can find and recognize assets easily without extra help.

  • Improving clarity: Short, clear codes work well in software and are easy for techs to understand.

  • Ensuring consistency: Having a fixed structure ensures that all assets are consistently named.

  • Boosting efficiency: Technicians can easily find, sort, and manage assets with clear and logical names.

Example:
For four facilities with multiple buildings, each housing CNC machines, an asset code might follow this structure:
[Location]-[Building]-[EquipmentType]-[ID]
E.g., TX-BLD3-CNC-017
